Sleeping Problems

At times of increased stress it is common for people to suffer from changes to their sleep including:

  • Trouble falling asleep.

  • Waking and having trouble going back to sleep.

  • Waking frequently throughout the night.

  • Difficulty waking up.

  • Waking too early in the morning or poor quality sleep.

  • Chemotherapy itself can lead to poor sleep the first night or two after each chemotherapy treatment. Some medication such as steroids that are used in your chemotherapy treatment can cause insomnia if taken too late in the day.

  • You can talk to your nurse or doctor for assistance with your sleep problems.

SOME STRATEGIES

  • Warm milk prior to bed.

  • Reduce your coffee or tea intake at night.

  • Try a warm bath.

  • Listen to music.

  • Relaxation tapes may help.
